What changed in Ventrilo 3.0?

Ventrilo 3.0 brings full media player integration. You may now sync your server with iTunes, WinAmp, and Windows Media Player. Stream music to a channel! The name of the song you’re playing even shows up after your name in quotes. Not only can you stream music easily now, but you can change the codecs of individual channels, so you can make a different codec for your music channel.

Ventrilo 3.0 also almost entirely removed the irritating clicks from when you begin to talk and stop talking. This is a huge step in reducing bloody ears everywhere. Another step in the right direction was the addition of an equalizer that is usable when you are adjusting your own voice. This means quicker and more precise sound adjustments.

Possibly one of the biggest changes in Ventrilo 3.0 is the complete redesign of user permissions. There are now two types of users on a Ventrilo 3.0 server; accounts and guests. Any user not registered with an account now follows different rules, allowing administrators to drastically reduce verbal vandals. These users get different MOTDs (messages of the day) and draw from different permission rules. Speaking of MOTD changes, you can now hyperlink URLs in both the MOTD and text-chat.

Text based chat? You betcha there are changes to that, too. You may now have private text conversations with other users. And now text chat word wraps instead of horizontal scroll bars.

Ventrilo 3.0 also brings the new feature of "commanding targets." Basically, you can set one player to only broadcast his voice to a specific set of players in Ventrilo 3.0. This is useful in establishing a hierarchy of commanding officers on the battlefield or in the raid.

You can now set ranks for your users and allow only certain ranks to talk in certain channels. Again, we have another useful tool for raid and battlefield management.

Complaints are another new feature of Ventrilo 3.0. These will allow users to register complaints with each other, which will be sent to whoever is flagged to receive complaints. This is a great tool for guild and clan management. You can even complain about yourself.
